I'm going to see Wrath of Khan on the big screen tomorrow! It is being shown tomorrow and a few days ago for the 35th anniversary. I just found out about this before work today, and I cannot believe how little advertising it's gotten, grrr. But whatever, my manager is actually letting me come in late so I can go watch it. !!!!!!! Yeah, gonna have to love her forever for this. This is my favorite movie of all time :swoon:

If anyone is interested - Wrath of Khan on Fandango. We (or I) will be discussing this on Terror for sure. So excited!

Whew, I made it. I was running late, so I didn't check into the hotel or unpack my car for three hours, but I made it to my first panel, a Q&A with Timothy Zanh, literally a minute before it began. And I am so glad I didn't give up hope to make it on time because it was great. He's got two sequels to Thrawn in the works, but has to wait until season 4 of Rebels sets more canon. Also, found out he wrote Thrawn to be a prequel of sorts for Rebels season 3.

writing worships with Zahn and Stackpole have been totally worth the money so far. And I've found one person to talk about Twin Peaks with - one of the writer guests I've met at Con Carolinas. Also, there's a Twin Peaks panel on Sunday - cannot wait!

Now, going to bed early cause I am wiped.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

A friend's recent post reminded me to tell you all about the baby bird encounter. Late Sunday afternoon, I'm going into the YMCA, and there's a small tree next to the entrance. One the sidewalk nearby is a baby bird chirping away, in the trying to get attention/I need help kind of way. So I go over and sit down on the step and am like "Hi baby bird, what's up?" It hops over to me, closer and closer, still chirping.

I am very surprised and elated, as a freaking wild bird is hopping over to me, ya know? then I remember the old story that if you handle a baby bird it's mother will abandon it, so making sure there was still space between it and my shoe, I asked it again what was wrong. And it looked up at me and freaking opened its mouth as wide as it would go! Instantly, I'm happy, sad, shocked, and thinking of what I have in the car, which is only chips and salsa. And, lol, for an instant I wonder if I can get it into my hand and if I can get a chip into a form that a baby bird can consume before I realize I can't feed a freaking wild baby bird, what am i gonna do, chew up a chip and spit it into it's mouth like I'm a Ferengi mother?! Ahahahaha!

And then I felt really bad and embarrassed at my predicament. So I apologized to the baby bird and it hopped away, still chirping for someone to feed it.  I have to assure myself that it's mother was just taking longer than usual coming back with food.

In other animal news, Marvel Friend's puppy dachshund thinks it can fly, and it is the cutest thing ever when he flings himself off the couch arm into empty space, little legs in Superman position. I don't understand why he hasn't got a cape yet, but I will fix that soon.

Sooo, I had no idea this was going on, but as a disturbing amount of things on You Tube, it is hilarious and a bit brilliant.

Just saw the Agents of Shield teaser over the weekend...

My reaction:

NPR's article on the show, it's impact on modern story-telling, including rememberences from Jane Espenson.

Just a wonderfully heartfelt essay from Salon.

Entertainment looks back at 20 classic episodes.

22 'fun facts' from People.

The Daily Mail goes into detail on the actor's lives (personal and professional) since Buffy ended.

The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anxiety: Breaking Free from Worry, Panic, PTSD, and Other Anxiety Symptoms

This is a book I’ve been working with for a few years. It’s very well organized, and I can’t recc it enough as a good, accessible place to start on self therapy for a myriad of issues. It’s also very helpful to go back over, whenever I’m having a problem with a certain symptom - anxiety, nightmares, obsessive thoughts, etc. As long as I remember to go back to it, lol! DBT is a form of CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which has exploded over the psychology world the last decade or so.

Many thanks to everyone who has made me feel welcome back around here :-) I appreciate it very much.

I forgot to mention coloring as something I've been doing a lot of the last few months. It really is good as a mindfulness exercise and stress reduction. Besides being fun and creative :-) Marvel Friend and a co-worker friend both gave me coloring books and supplies for the holiday. Jack pot! Below the cut is the one I've mostly finished, a sketch of Deanna Troy from season one/two of ST-TNG (please keep in mind this is one of my first ever sketches!), and another pic of the snow yesterday that I took to use as a banner base.

Concrit on any and all of these is very welcome!

The Daily Show is live, and by far, has the best coverage. Because it's funny and they can express how disgusted they are.

Props to K104.7 in Charlotte, which may be my favorite radio station. Here's what I sung along to on my way to work today. Also wow, what a difference three decades makes. I used to love this first video. Now I understand why I couldn't take my eyes off Tawny, lol!

When I'm not having a shandy, I am a red wine drinker. Last week I got tired of my cheapo Yellow Tail and went looking for something different. Specifically, I wanted full bodied, fruity, but not bitter. Lo and behold I found it in the first and second bottle I tried.

I am a peculiar wine snob, in that the only American label I will buy is Biltmore (North Carolina). Columbia Crest in a pinch, if I'm at a restaurant. But now Apothic from California is my new all time favorite cheapish wine. It is fantastic and comes in many flavors. I tried it when it first came out and I don't know why I stopped drinking it. Probably to save a couple of bucks. The difference on their standard red isn't that much, IMO from middle grade cab sav.

I hardly ever do one of these kinds of posts here, so here's me trying something new :-)

During my recent funk, I was using the brilliant and funny meta-analysis sitcom The Grinder for my self-soothing material. Then it left Hulu!  So I bought the whole season from Amazon for the sadly low price of 15 bucks :-/ Poor Rob Lowe. (Fuck you FOX, I was still upset over Dollhouse.) The Grinder still doesn't get to Netflix until tomorrow, so I was right, I wouldn't have made it. I highly recc this wrongly cancelled show. Rob Lowe's character is a cross between Zoolander and Abed from Community - so fantastic. And Fred Savage's comedic timing is understatedly great.

I've been over at Amazon more than usual, as they are getting some fantastic things on Prime. All of Star Trek is there now, woohoo! I also still have STARZ (from where they were showing all the MCU movies.) Now they've got The Force Awakens, so clearly can't give that up.

Title: Skills that make you go Wow Montage
Vidder: alex663
Note: Starts a little slow, but quickly goes into the Dayam! Territory. I side-eye the vidder’s choice of the last ‘scene’, for it’s pervy gaze aspect (that is a teenager). But, to be fair, that certainly isn’t the first move shared between exotic dance floor work and gymnastics floor/beam work in this video. No idea who’s copying who.

Watch even more awesome.... )
