Wow, I didn't know how much I needed to see him telling me it would be alright. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal for turning me onto this.

First, I want to bring everyone's attention to this new commercialasking people to send money and, "pledge support to President Donald Trump." This scares the hell out of me, and the only word I can think of is coup.

Yes, you read that correctly. Because it is just so...uplifting and hope-giving to see how many people are protesting for a second week in a row. That hundreds, maybe thousands of people jumped up to go to airports to try and free the detained visitors from Syria, etc. This is seriously, fucking awesome!

I am enjoying MSNBCs coverage, as usual. And very glad I didnt cancel cable yet, or would have no idea this was happening.

Also, I made it through work! Just got home but I'm hoping to actually leave some comments on people's journals/respond to comments tonight, as I don't feel like my arms are about to fall off, so cheers. And thanks so much to everyone who sent me well wishes. I think they worked :-)

So, I'm watching. It's been playing with no sound for an hour, but there's no turning away now. Michelle Obama keeps getting this look on her face like she wants to beat someone up, and I love it. Melania looked like she was being walked to her execution as she and Mrs. Pence were being escorted through the Capitol.

I keep getting flashes of Carter and Bernie tackling Trump and holding him down, so Hillary can take the oath of office. Bill is pointing his thumb at the guy holding Lincoln's bible....aw what could be...

I feel really sick to my stomach.

Donald looks scared to death, ahaha. And Paul Ryan really needs to get that smug grin off his face before someone smacks it off. (Who wants to take guesses on what Hillary is on right now to get through this without any of my above fantasies coming true? this seems like the time to try Molly, if ever there was one...)

I love you Obama. You are the father of our nation.

So, I’m wiped. I won’t get to responding on any journal or other correspondence tonight, but hopefully I'll get up at a decent hour tomorrow. I won’t be watching the new Agents of Shield until tomorrow. I’m currently glued to MSNBC (and The Rachel) because I’ll be canceling cable soon :-/  Epsom salt bath, foam rolling my butt, journaling, then bed, woohoo!

I hope everyone is having a good night. I know I am. I’m sad, but also very hopeful and fired up. Love you all!

Welp, this is it. Eight years ago I drove alone to DC, a place I'd never been to watch Obama's first inarguration. And I got off work early tonight to watch his farewell address live. So glad I did. I've already teared up and he hasn't even said anything yet.

The petition urging the Electoral College to follow the will of the people, and name Hillary Clinton as President still needs 1.5 million votes. Even if they probably will not go against their states, it is possible, and either way, I think it's important to show a protest in any way we can.
Link to petition on Change.org. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] desdemonaspace for sharing this!

And for something to take away any bad tastes in your mouths, footage of Obama giving Ellen Degeneres the Medal of Freedom today. This is a moment, a feeling, and an attitude that can never be taken away.

I suspect that political posts will be a constant from now on. I’ll keep them separate, and try to balance them with food and fun posts. Please, feel free to skip them with no guilt. I know a lot of you use LJ as an escape from the real world, and I do not blame you in the least. But I have always been into politics since birth I think, and this election has woken that part of me up like no body’s business. See my new journal header.

First - kittens!

Last night, I went to the biannual meeting of LGBT Democrats of Mecklenburg (that’s my county, Charlotte, NC). It was my first attendance, and I am very glad I went. Everyone was very nice and welcoming, and there were other new people, galvanized by the election, or being newcomers to the area.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sunnytyler001 for recommending this video. I had to repost because the ending makes it my favorite response to far more than the US election.

Many on my flist have had a hard year, for one reason or another. For those not seeing my personal posts, this hasn’t been the best year for me either. And I am just so ready to move on to something better.

So, I agree with Oliver - fuck you, 2016. I’m glad to be seeing the back of you. And I think this holiday season, the end of you is what I will be celebrating.

So, first [livejournal.com profile] orangerful posted some Joss Whedon pearls of wisdom, including an Angel quote - “We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be.” Which reminded me of the Ghandi quote - “Be the change you want to see in the world.” And also reminds me of the Buddhist saying - “Be a light unto yourself.”

Then [livejournal.com profile] black_sluggard recommended this for post-election listening:

Video: Fuck you - Lily Allen. Lyrics HD

Which is fantastic, and I listened to it while making my lunch - mushroom and cheese quesadilla, with salsa, sour cream, and spicy Chow Chow (pickled cabbage, onion, and red pepper, southern style). Then I watched BBC coverage of Britain and Europe’s reaction. Then I went to work, and it was a gorgeous, fall day today. Sunny, cool, bright, with colorful foliage and a brisk wind.

[Written 30 minutes ago] This is pretty much me today and my Facebook post. My crazed hysteria passed, as did my dismay and bewilderment. Now, I'm just bitter, angry, and feeling passive aggressive. I know people who voted for Trump, and I don't know how I'm going to be able to be civil with them from now on. I feel like, basically, half the country the just spit on me personally, as a not 100% white, not hetero, not cis gendered, vagina having American.
------
Just finished watching Clinton's speech, and I'm feeling less petty. I finally had a good cry over it. I feel even worse now for not volunteering. She would have made a great president. But she did win the popular vote (just like Gore), so all isn't as horrible in the country as the election would indicate. I have to hold onto that.

But it is fucked up that there are apparently a ton of white men in this country pretending to be more progressive than they really are. And I still don't know what to say to the people I know voted for Trump, but I definitely want to say something. Not against them personally, nothing ugly, just to let them know how hurtful it is to know that so many people don't believe I should have equal standing with them. Also, one of them is a young white woman...that I work with tonight, sooo.....this should be interesting. Considering half our co-workers are either black or LGBT, or both.

Also, can't wait for South Park tonight! Rewatched 19x02 recently, and those guys are seriously psychic.

The Daily Show is live, and by far, has the best coverage. Because it's funny and they can express how disgusted they are.
dancingdragon3: (abed_selfesteem)
Maybe I'm numb/hysterical. Maybe this is the zoloft. Maybe it's the current sciatic pain in my leg affecting my judgement. Maybe it was because they chained Trump to his podium, and Hilary took a shot of tequila  before going up. But I enjoyed the "debate" tonight so much, that I watched the entire thing, and didn't go over to the new South Park.

Hilary was fabulous! She kept looking directly at the camera and practically rolling her eyes at Trump. One time, she clearly looked at someone she knew in the audience with "Can you believe this guy?" Then there were the looks she was sending him, like she was fantasizing about taking him out when she gets elected.

And the talking over each other. All three of them. Ha! That was better than the SNL skit. It was like they were spoofing the spoof! And wow, does Alec Baldwin have Trump down. I listened to the first part on the radio at work and on the way home, and Trump sounded exactly like Baldwin in the skit I posted. So crazy. So funny. So sad.

And decided tonight that Hilary is the best person to go up against Trump. I can't imagine any of our past Dems, except maybe Obama, holding their own and striking back against such an overwhelming jack ass. I can only assume it's because she would be used to dealing with men like that all her life, in a way a (priveleged white) man wouldn't be. It takes practice to deflect and fight back against contempt with pose and graceful sarcasm.

On a different note: I highly reccomend foam rollers for glute and leg pain. I've been using the one I got for the cancelled workshop for the last hour, and it's awesome.

A question you need to ask:

For Congressional Reps who still haven’t withdrawn support for Trump

When you think about Trump's 2nd amendment joke, don’t forget Christina Taylor Green. She’s the little girl who died when Sarah Palin made a joke - when Gabby Giffords was nearly killed because some crazy decided to act on that joke. Think about Trump’s supporters…and ask if the death of a child is reason enough for you to stop supporting Trump. You already put party in front of country - why not stop at that. When you put getting in office above your moral integrity you clearly no longer are fit to serve.

Warning: Homophobic language below cut.
