Zombie Comedy:
The Santa Clarita Diet from Netflix

This is less of a zombie show, and more of a quirky suburban comedy where one of the wives happens to be a zombie and the interpersonal conflicts that creates. Hysterical and filled with surprises.

Besides Drew Barrymore, actors from tragically cancelled The Grinder, and Nathan Fillion playing a sleazy real estate agent sucked me right in. I’ll admit, the cliffhanger season finale wasn’t all I was hoping for, and the last couple of episodes got a little too gruesome for my taste, but I still cannot wait to see season two and will def be rewatching season one.

Animation Recc:
Elena of Avalor by Disney

I absolutely adore this show. There have been some complaints that it smushes together different indigenous cultures and myths, but honestly, white people tend to do that with our own European ancestry, so I really don’t think any racism is at work here. It’s a huge step in the right direction, as Elena is a very smart, proactive young woman, who honors her indigenous cultural heritage, as well as the blended in European aspects.

It’s wonderful seeing a ‘cast’ of mostly POC, while also being reminded that there are blonde Latinos out there. Most of the voice actors are of Latin/Caribbean descent. The show has a similar feel to Star Wars Rebels, with a gender balanced ensemble cast, and plots that don’t shy away from adult themes. There is also an obviously progressive social/environmental message being promoted that I quite like. And thank all, Dia de los Muertos is covered accurately, as far as this American pagan can tell.

Also - flying jaguars! Spirit guides! A super smoking hot moth fairy, and a musical number in every single episode. And, these are not all performed by the lead character - everyone gets their moment in the spotlight. And it all begins with the catchiest theme song I have ever heard.

Elena of Avalor sounds really tempting, if I was looking for things to watch.

LOL!

I assume you would have to pay for it, but if you and can afford it, and like singing Disney princesses, I think it's well worth it. Flying jaguars!
